All About Senior Sessions

Seniors

I love senior sessions.

As a high school senior, this is such an exciting time. The rest of your life is about to begin! The possibilities are endless. You’ve spent the last 17-18 years growing into the unique and wonderful young adult you surely are, and now it’s time to capture it all with your senior photo session.

Some seniors can’t wait for their session, some are a little nervous, and there may even be a handful of you that are dreading it and are only doing this because your mom wants you to.

Well I’m here to tell you that we can make your session as fun, creative, laid-back, or pain-free as you'd like.

Once you decide to book a senior session with me the first steps are to choose a package and set a date! Once we do that I'll send you a booking link that includes a little questionnaire. The questionnaire will help me get an idea of what you’re looking for, but feel free to reach out with any questions, thoughts, concerns, ideas, inspo photos, or anything else at any point.

After that we can talk locations, props, and all the other details in the time leading up to your session!

Packages

I have 4 different packages that I offer for seniors. The first comes with one session, one location, and a couple outfits! It's short, sweet, and to the point.

The second package is my most common package. This one comes with two locations on the same day and 2 outfits per location. So it overs a lot of variation! And kids love being creative, especially with their second location, which makes it a lot of fun. I'll talk about locations more shortly!

The third package comes with 4 locations on two separate days. This is perfect for seniors who want a lot of variation and who also may be having a hard time choosing which season they want! This way you can have both warm summery photos and pretty snowy photos too! Or spring and fall, or whatever you want. Plus you can really get creative with extra locations!

The final package I offer is similar to the first, but at a discounted rate if you share your session with a friend! You'll each still get the same amount of photos as you would had you each separately booked package one, but since you're both coming to the same location on the same evening, it saves me a trip and some time, which in turn saves you some money!

Locations

If you are only doing one location, I suggest an outdoor spot! I have several of these, so you can leave that up to me unless you have a specific location or request in mind. If you are doing a second (or third & fourth) location, you have some room for creativity! Here are a few ideas, but I’m down for whatever you want to do.

  • Parking garage - I’ve done several of these and they’re always a lot of fun!
  • Downtown - offers a lot of variation. Another common choice for a good reason.
  • Fair/carnival - honestly I’ve been dying to do a senior session at the fair this summer, so if this sounds like you, LET’S DO IT.
  • Simple Studio Portraits - If you want to go for a classic, modern, or editorial vibe, studio sessions offer a lot of possibilities! (There’s a $50 rental fee for studio sessions.)
  • Your bedroom! A person’s room can say a lot about them! If you want to show off your space and get some cool photos in your very own room, I think they’d turn out pretty cool!
  • Your high school - most high schools in town also have great outdoor spots so it  can be the best of both worlds.
  • Any other location that helps tell your story! For example: an art studio, a library, a gym/dance studio/basketball court, a bowling alley, or any other place related to your interests!

Props

You don’t need to bring anything other than your outfits and any props you might want to include.

Props can be a fun way to tell more about yourself, but they’re certainly not necessary.

The most common props kids like to include are sports jerseys and accessories. If you have a letterman’s jacket (those are still a thing, right?) you could bring that! Some other ideas would be musical instruments, a stack of books if you like reading, or anything else that might relate to your interests!

You could also choose a prop that is less personal and more for aesthetic purposes like a bouquet of flowers.

If you decide to not bring any props, that’s okay too! All we really need for a great senior portrait gallery is you.

What to expect

I’ve got all the posing under control, so you don’t have to worry about that unless there’s a specific pose you want to do! If I tell you to do anything you don’t like, feel free to make it your own, or just tell me you don’t like it and we’ll move on! I’m super flexible so just make sure you communicate what you’re thinking and we can adjust. We’ll make sure to get a variety of expressions, poses, and candid photos!

If you’re doing a single location you can expect somewhere around 45 minutes and if you’re doing two locations, we usually spend around a half hour or maybe slightly more at each location. With that being said, I don’t like giving exact times because every session is different and we’ll shoot until I feel confident that we got enough images for a great and full gallery!

Pretty much everyone starts off their session feeling a bit awkward and that’s totally normal and okay. You’ll get more comfortable as we go along. Just do your best to relax and be yourself.
